Uncivil War, Migration Escalation & Global Anxiety

EXAMINING NEW FILM RELEASES GOODBYE JULIA AND THE OLD OAK
Host: Daily Maverick Multimedia journalist Tevya Turok Shapiro
Guest panelists: Filmmaker Mohamed Kordofani and University of Johannesburg Professor and Vice Dean Research in the Faculty of Humanities Prof Pragna Rugunanan.
Join Tevya Turok Shapiro, Mohamed Kordofani and Prof Pragna Rugunanan on Tuesday, 10 October at 12pm SAST as they examine the two films: Goodbye Julia, directed by Mohamed Kordofani and The Old Oak, directed by Ken Loach.
Using the two films as reference points, this discussion will focus on the situation in Sudan, then traverse the causes and impacts of migration, its current escalation around the world, very much including South Africa where xenophobia is also escalating. What do these films tell us about our world? Very importantly, how should we as individuals be understanding and responding to it all?
